Todaiji Temple is so awesome. I remember the first time I went there. I had a professor in college (awesome guy btw) who told the class about his trip there when he was doing research and he told us how massive the temple was. He showed us a picture and pointed out how the people looked like ants in front of the temple. I believed him that it was large of course but I figured maybe it was just the photo's perspective making it look larger. Oh boy, was I in for a treat when I actually got to the temple. It was seriously MASSIVE and the incense burner that he mentioned was out front as well so it was cool that I got to experience all of the things that he was able to experience in the past. I guess that's one thing that makes historical places like this so extraordinary- being able to connect with the past without actually being there. I really loved all the small models there as well lol! I'll certainly never forget my trip to Todaiji and I'd love to visit Nara again when I get the chance.

Whoa! Now those are some fireworks! Holy crud, this is insane. I don't think I've ever seen fireworks this bright and colorful and I've been to the Omagari Fireworks Festival before! Didn't know that Mie had such amazing fireworks. All of the good fireworks festivals are so far away from Tokyo ?. Just more reason to explore other areas of Japan though I suppose. Apparently this is the Kihoku Lantern Festival too so I'd get to see some beautiful lanterns on the water as well. Hopefully I can get out some this summer, been cooped up indoors for way too long at this point, and I'm starting to miss the fresh nippon breeze ?. Hopefully spring comes somewhat early this year so I can see some cherry blossoms and drink some plum wine while barbecuing lol!

Wow, what a great photo! Capturing the torii, the Victory? (I don't think it's the Queen Ashinoko at least), and Mt. Fuji all in one shot. I'd love to see this same shot in autumn when the leaves change, I think it'd be really beautiful. I want to go for a cruise on the Ashinoko as well if possible, I think it'd be a really cool idea for a date so I need to look into that lol. Plus I still haven't gotten to see Hakone much so it'd make a great destination to visit next. I guess next time I head south a bit otherwise it's a bit of a long train ride. Either way, I'm looking forward to when the opportunity arises!

I really enjoy seeing these posts showcasing Japanese matchlock guns. Not only do they look cool, they even look cool being fired. The smoke and the muzzle flash make it just completely awesome. I've fired modern day rifles and handguns and stuff like that but I've never gotten the chance to fire something like this. I'd love to try it just to see how it felt. Maybe it's a way to understand the past better as well. Gaining insight on what the samurai of the past would have used, how strong they are, how much kick they have, how they reload, etc. etc. Speaking of the reload and firing, it really looks interesting. I'm not too familiar with how it works but I assume it's muzzle loaded and then the string is used as a fuse? Either way I imagine it's something there are definitely hobbyists for!

Among the 69 stations of the Nakasendo, in the pure Nakasendo 67 inn (from Itabashi to Moriyama) that pulled out Kusatsu and Otsu-juku shared with the Tokaido, Naraijuku is a post town in the middle of nakasendo, located 34th even if you count from Itabashi-juku on the Edo side or Moriyama-juku on the Kyoto side. The highest altitude of kiso 11 inns, ahead of the difficult Torii Pass, the post town that prospered among many travelers was toned as "Narai Senken". The townscape has been selected as an important preservation district for groups of traditional buildings in Japan, and it has left a strong image of the past. What a beautiful photo! I've seen a Japanese friendship garden in Portland I think it was but this one has a totally different atmosphere. It's really cool to see the different styles. I hadn't heard of West Lake before but I looked at some pictures of it and it looks like a beautiful place. I like how the architecture of the pavilions is very similar as well. I'm certainly a fan of all of the winter scenery I've gotten to see this year, but I feel like the cherry blossoms would certainly look amazing here. That or even the foliage in the autumn. I'd like to check this out when I get the chance. It looks like there are some interesting restaurants in the area as well so I can look forward to some tasty food!

Gifu Park Japan-China Friendship Garden Snow ❄️

A garden created in 1989 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the friendship city alliance between Gifu City and Hangzhou City, People's Republic of China, with chinese-style design gates, earthen walls, gardens, and ponds designed to mimic The West Lake, a famous place in Hangzhou City

This pond is a pond that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons.
The cherry blossom ? is famous, but the snowy scenery is also the best.
When you come to Gifu, please take a walk in Gifu Park. ?
