It is a popular Onsen town along with Kusatsu Hot Springs (草津温泉 Kusatsu Onsen) in Gunma. There are stone steps along the hill in the center of this Onsen town. There are many ryokan and souvenir shops along the steps on both sides. These elegant steps are the center of sightseeing in this town. The ryokan Oyado Tamaki stands at the foot of these steps. Access to Ikaho Onsen, Gunma Prefecture is 15 minutes by taxi and 20 minutes by bus from Shibukawa Station (Ikaho Onsen ・榛名湖口 Harunakoguchi ) on the JR Joetsu Line. If coming by car, it's around 20 minutes from Shibukawa Ikaho IC on the Kan-etsu Highway (関越自動車道 Kan-etsu Jidoshado). From Tokyo, it takes around 2 hours by train and around 1.5 hour by car. As it is difficult to make a parking area near the stone steps, Oyado Tamaki’s parking is 50m away from the building. There is a free transport service to/from the parking lot. Despite being a Japanese Inn, Oyado Tamaki offers rooms with a sofa and beds to accommodate the needs of modern and international visitors. It also has Japanese style rooms with Rotenburo (露天風呂 open-air bath). The inn also offers other types of rooms to accommodate the needs of tourists. Jutei (樹亭) a newly added building offers a variety of rooms: 花水木 (Hanamizuki), 花梨 (Karin), 木蓮(Mokuren), and 水蓮 (Suiren). There is also 槐 (Enju), 杠(Yuzuriha), 檔 (Ate) and 桂 (Katsura) which have open-air baths. 蓬莱 (Horai) is a Western style room with a cypress bath with a view. 楓 (Kaede) is a room with a double bed and semi-open-air bath with Shigara pottery (信楽焼, Shigarayaki). While the rooms, 桧 (Hinoki), 榴 (Tsutsuji), 楢 (Nara), 棯 (Utsugi), and 楊 (Yanagi) are located in the southern annex, 柊 (Hiiragi), 櫟 (Kunugi), 椿 (Tsubaki), 榎 (Enoki), 栂 (Tsuga), 椹 (Sawara), 楸 (Hisagi), and 桐 (Kiri) are located in the northern annex. 榀 (Shinanoki) and 檀 (Mayumi) are in the main building. There are two types of Onsen water you can try in this area. One is called Gold Water (黄金の湯 Koganenoyu). The water is reddish brown and contains iron. The other type is White Silver Water (白銀の湯 Hakuginnoyu). Oyado Tamaki is equipped with both types for its customers. There are two large bathing areas at Oyado Tamaki: the hazel bath (榛栗の湯, Hashibarigurinoyu) and the juniper bath (玉伊吹の湯, Tamaibukinoyu). The men and women's baths are designed to be interchangeable, so if you go at the right time, you will be able to experience both areas. The Yatsuba Dam in Gunma Prefecture This video shows concrete being poured at the Yotsuba Damn in Gunma Prefecture. The Yatsuba Dam was originally planned in 1952 to protect Tokyo and the Tone River basin from floods caused by typhoons in the Agatsuma River, one of the major tributaries of the Tone River. However the project was abandoned due to water quality problems, lack of construction technology at the time, and anti-dam movements. After a long period of time to address these issues, construction of the dam began in 2015, and it was completed on March 31, 2020. The dam lake was named the "Yanba-Atsuma Lake" out of around 1,000 candidates from across the country. After years and years of waiting, the dam was finally completed.
