The annual festival of Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine is held mainly on August 15. It is also popularly called the "Fukagawa Hachiman Festival" and is counted as one of the "Three Great Festivals of Edo" along with the Yamao Festival of Hieda Shrine in Akasaka and the Kanda Festival of Kanda Akikami. Once every three years, the year in which the Goho of Hachimangu Palace crosses the temple is called the Main Festival, and the way the 53 town shrines gather together to cross the temple in a united manner is unique to the "Fukagawa Hachiman Festival". The Fukagawa Festival, as the traditional chant of "Wasshoi, Wasshiyoi" and the "Mizukake Festival" as alias, is characterized by the fact that cleansing water is showered on the bearers from the roadside crowd and the bearer and the audience get excited as one, and it has been carefully handed down by many people as a festival that conveys the essence of Edo to the present.
